Burbank Alumni holds on to a 3-2 win over the Burbank Bulldogs Varsity Squad in annual baseball alumni game

Dylan Kremer strikes out the side to earn the save for the Bulldogs alumni squad

The Burbank Bulldogs alumni escaped with a one run win over the Bulldogs varsity squad with Dylan Kremer striking out the side to earn the save for the alumni squad.

Ryland LeClair got into an early jam in the top of the first inning as he allowed the first two baserunners of the game. Andy Herrera started off the game with a walk before LeClair allowed a single to his older brother Devin LeClair.

The younger LeClair then got the next two outs with Paul Frias popping out to catcher Tanner Kremer and Mikelo Reynoso grounding out to first baseman Casey Peters. LeClair got Sam Andreas to tap the ball back to the mound for the third out.

While it was scoreless for the first two innings, Chad Woodburn drove home Marcos Sauri for the game’s first run in the top of the third inning giving the alumni a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning Anthony Sanchez was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to drive home Tanner Kramer to tie the game at one. Mason Schwartz had a golden chance to break the game open but struck out swinging to leave the bases full to end the third inning.

Carter Williamson had a chance to come through for varsity with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Williamson recorded an RBI groundout to give the varsity Bulldogs squad a 2-1 lead. Casey Peters struck out swinging to end the home half of the fourth inning.

Following a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, the Bulldogs alumni squad scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Dylan Kremer tied the game at two by scoring on a wild pitch from Sebastian Aguirre. Alex Acuna drove home Bryant Johnson for the go ahead run but Andrew Hamilton was thrown out at home plate while trying to give the alumni an insurance run.

Ryland LeClair and Mason Schwartz recorded back-to-back two-out singles in hopes of a big rally for the varsity Bulldogs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Unfortunately for them, Ezekiel Canto grounded out to the pitcher Devin LeClair to end the sixth inning.

Carter Williamson retired the side in order in the top of the 7th inning and the varsity Bulldogs still had one more chance at tying or winning the game. Dylan Kremer struck out the side in order to help the alumni Bulldogs squad escape with a one run win, 3-2, over the varsity Bulldogs squad.

“Our alumni game is about honoring those that come before us,” said Bob Hart. “Everyone got playing time and everyone got a chance to pitch off the mound to get reps in.” Hart also added that it was great to see some of his former players that played for him at the alumni game.

Prior to the first pitch pregame activities were held such as the hit-a-thon sponsorship where players on both the Bulldogs varsity and junior varsity teams take swings to raise money for local charities. Following the hit-a-thon, a home run derby was also held for both teams.

The Varsity Bulldogs will take the field on Tuesday, February 17th against Marshall on opening day of the season with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
