DeShawn LaPorte’s three touchdown passes helped the Bulldogs to a dominant victory over the Apaches

The Burbank Bulldogs came out on top with a 46-10 win over the Arcadia Apaches in their first Pacific League home game of the season behind DeShawn LaPorte’s three touchdown passes. Last week, Burbank got blown out by Muir while Arcadia lost a close one to Burroughs, 21-13, to start Pacific League play.

Joseph Caballero put the Bulldogs on the board first with an 18-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter. This also happened to be the only score of the first period. Aaron Zan got Arcadia on the board by converting his 26-yard field goal attempt to make the score 7-3.  Burbank then began to pile on in the second quarter.

First, Elijah Pendelton’s 49-yard run helped set up another score for Burbank, which they turned into points on a 30-yard touchdown pass from LaPorte to Daniel Zakariaz to give the Bulldogs a 13-3 lead over the Apaches. Ezekiel Alvarez followed that when he intercepted Apache’s quarterback Jacobi Law. The Bulldogs capitalized on the turnover with a nine-yard quarterback keeper by DeShawn LaPorte to give Burbank a 20-3 lead over Arcadia. Max Kelly capped off the scoring burst with a two-yard goal-line touchdown run to give the Bulldogs a comfortable 26-3 lead heading into halftime.

Following the halftime break, the Bulldogs continued their barrage by scoring on the opening possession of the second half. Tyler Hudson caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from LaPorte to make it a 32-3 lead. Arcadia responded with a touchdown of their own with a goal-line touchdown pass from Law to Ethan Long to make it a 32-10 game. Later in the third quarter, LaPorte r threw his third touchdown pass of the game, this time finding Exodus Freeman. The two-point conversion was successful on a fake field goal, as Daniel Zackariaz found Ezekiel Alvarez in the end zone to give the Bulldogs a 40-10 lead. Joseph Caballero recorded his second rushing touchdown of the contest with a 35-yard run to give the Bulldogs a 46-10 lead in the fourth quarter.

“It was a great win to start league play at home, our offense did a great job getting the football to other guys,” said Bulldogs coach Hector Valencia. He also stated that DeShawn LaPorte is a very talented quarterback and finds ways to extend plays along with his pocket mobility.

Burbank improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in Pacific League play, while Arcadia falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in Pacific League play. Both teams will return to action on Thursday, October 3rd with Arcadia hosting Muir while Burbank will start a two-game road trip beginning at Pasadena High School in the annual Bulldog battle. Both games will take place at 7 p.m.

Burbank’s next home contest will be against Glendale, which will take place at Burbank High’s Kemp Kallem field with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. It will include several senior night festivities honoring members of the Burbank High School’s football, cheer, pom, and marching band squads. The marching band seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony before kickoff followed by a halftime ceremony honoring the seniors on the football, cheer, and pom teams.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
