Davit Tadevosyan’s two goals in the first half set the tone in the win for the Bulldogs

The Burbank Bulldogs came away with a 7-1 win over Monroe in dominant fashion in their season opener behind two first-half goals by Davit Tadevosyan. Monday night the Monroe Vikings were shut out 6-0 against Valor Academy. Burbank, meanwhile, went 1-1-1 in the Notre Dame College Showcase as they lost to Santa Paula 1-2 on the first day of the tournament, then drew with Canyon 2-2 along with defeating Verdugo Hills 3-0.

The Bulldogs hit the ground running with the scoring early in the first half as Davit Tadevosyan scored the game’s first goal in the 6th minute of play. Raymond Soukiazian put Burbank up 2-0 in the 24th minute of play. Tadevosyan scored his second goal in the 29th minute to give Burbank a 3-0 lead. Victor Chtryan missed an attempt at goal in the 33rd minute when his shot went over the top of the crossbar. Ironically, at the same time, the stadium lights at Kemp Kallem field went out which resulted in halftime and a 15-minute delay. The Monroe Vikings never had any goal chances in the first half of play.

Burbank continued to dominate in the second half as Vahe Tsaturyan and Ashot Grigorian both had goals early on in the half. Tsaturyan’s goal came in the 7th minute while Grigorian’s goal occurred in the 13th minute. Monroe was held without a score until Nelson Vasquez scored a goal in the 29th minute to cut the lead to 5-1. Grigorian also scored his second goal of the game in the 38th minute to put Burbank up 6-1. Samvel Stepanyan sealed the game with a buzzer-beating goal to end the game in the second half. Dennis Santos had 11 saves for Monroe and allowed seven goals in the match while Erik Antanesyan had two saves for Burnak in the game.

“It was a good win for us. We played lots of strong teams on the road and it was nice for us to have a home game,” said Johnny Rotunno. Rotunno added that the power outage during the game was frustrating but managed to still finish the game without any problems.

Burbank improves to 5-1-1 while Monroe drops to 1-3-1 on the season. Burbank will take on Agoura to start the Royal Tournament on Thursday, December 12th with kick-off slated for 5:45 p.m. and Monroe will host Arleta on Friday, December 13th at 4:00 p.m.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
