Dion Keshisyan records 14 saves in goal to help the Bulldogs escape with a 13-10 win over the Scorpions 

In a contest that featured a rematch between two teams that played each other early in the regular season back on August 21st, the Burbank Bulldogs and Camarillo Scorpions squared off in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division Three playoffs. The Bulldogs returned the favor, following their early-season loss, coming away with a 13-10 win over Camarillo behind 14 saves by Dion Keshisyan. The Scorpions won 20-17 over Burbank in that first meeting between the two teams. Both the Bulldogs and Scorpions came off first-round wins in the playoffs as Burbank had a 13-9 win over Agoura while Camarillo defeated Flintridge Prep 11-5. 

Avo Ilangesyan and Daniel Babelyan began the first quarter for the Bulldogs, recording the game’s first two goals. Mac Barlow got Camarillo on the board to make it a one-point game. Ilangesyan alternated goals with Reynold Owings and Michael Bakegyan, which resulted in the Bulldogs being up 4-2 to end the first quarter. 

The Bulldogs went on a 4-0 scoring run to start the second quarter as Bakegyan, Babelyan, and Ilangesyan helped with the offensive parade to put Burbank up 8-2. Christian Minero got the Scorpions on the board in the second quarter, which resulted in Camarillo trailing 8-3 at the half. 

Camarillo started the second half strong as Reynold Owings scored four straight goals to trim the Burbank lead to one. Ilangesyan ended the Scorpions’ 4-0 scoring run to get the lead back to two for the Bulldogs heading into the final quarter of play. 

Both teams continued to battle it out in the fourth quarter, but Bakegyan’s two goals helped seal the Bulldogs’ three-point win over the Scorpions. 

Burbank will take on Bonita in the CIF Southern Section Division Three Quarterfinals on Friday, November 7th, at 5:00 p.m., with Camarillo’s season officially coming to a close.
