Reese Kim’s two-out two run RBI double in the top of the fifth inning propelled the visiting Bulldogs to a 10-run win over the host Bulldogs

The Pasadena Bulldogs took game one of the two game series with a mercy-rule victory over the Burbank Bulldogs 16-6 on Tuesday. Reese Kim’s two-out two-run RBI double in the top of the fifth inning propelled the visiting Bulldogs to a comfortable 10-run win over the host Bulldogs.

Pasadena lost to the John Burroughs Bears 10-3 back on Friday night and Burbank was coming off a 6-4 win over Hoover following a 2-2 tie with the Tornados last week.

Max Reynolds drove in the game’s first run with an one-out infield single. Reynolds then stole second base before advancing to third base on an error from Tanner Kramer.

Casey Peters worked around the Reynolds traffic by getting Harrison Gwaltney on a groundout to shortstop Julian Recinos to end the top of the first inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the first inning Ryland LeClair hit a towering solo blast to right center field to tie the score at one.

Andru Machado was caught looking for a strikeout to end the first inning. Peters began the top of the second inning by getting Jayden Mendoza and Ryan Chen on ground outs and fly outs respectively.

Peters then worked around a two-out walk to Jackson Bradley by getting Bruno Pierandozzi on a groundout to second baseman LeClair to end the top of the second inning.

Carter Williamson began the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff infield single. Williamson was then moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Aaron Sanchez. Ezekiel Canto reached base with a one-out single, advancing to second base on an error charged to Reynolds in left field.

Following Mason Schawartz’s ground out to the pitcher Pierandozzi, Luca Kuiper drove home Canto and Williamson for a two-out two-run RBI single to give the host Bulldogs a 3-1 lead. Kuiper was caught stealing second base to end the second inning.

Pasadena responded in the third inning, adding four runs on the board to retake the lead. Dylan Derosier reached base with a leadoff double. He advanced to third base on a wild pitch from Peters. Reese Kim drove home Derosier with an RBI sac fly to make it a 3-2 game.

Reynolds reached base with a one-out walk and then stole second base before he advanced to third base on a passed ball by the catcher Mason Schwartz.

Aaron Martinez reached base on an error charged to Kuiper, scoring Reynolds to tie the game at three. Ryan Chen drove in two runs with a two-out RBI single to give Pasadena a 5-3 lead. Following Jackson Bradley’s two out walk, Bruno Pierandozzi flew out to the center fielder Anthony Sanchez to end the top of the third.

The host Bulldogs inched closer in the bottom half of the inning. Carter Williamson reached first base on an error charged to Rese Kim, and Tomas Angel scored to make it a one-run game. Pasadena pulled away by adding eight runs in the top of the fourth inning and then put three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to complete the mercy rule win over Burbank.

The Battle of the Bulldogs series will shift to Pasadena High School on Friday, March 13th with the first pitch scheduled for 3:45 p.m.

Quote of the week

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
