Bears split home and road back to back by going 1-1 

The John Burroughs Bears saw the Cajon Cowboys take over a defensive battle in the fourth quarter, falling 20-6. The Cowboys put up 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter with touchdowns by Janiya Zamora and Zamara Bruce. Burroughs came off a 19-0 win over Ramon Convent, and Cajon was fresh off a dominant 34-8 win over Yucaipa in the first of the back-to-back for both teams.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter, which was a defensive showdown for the Bears and Cowboys. Krystal Vilata started the scoring for the Bears with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown to give them a 6-0 lead. The Cowboys got on the board with quarterback Illene Garcia finding Jasmine Jackson in the end zone for the first touchdown of the game for Cajon. Garcia then found Vanessa Sepulveda for the extra point attempt to give the Cowboys a 7-6 lead, which was the score at the halftime break. Following the halftime break, Burroughs and Cajon were both held scoreless in the third quarter as both teams displayed a defensive showdown to keep the score at 7-6 in favor of Cajon.

Heading into the final quarter of play, both teams were looking to find ways to win as the Bears were looking to get back out in front, while the Cowboys were just trying to put the game away. Garcia connected with Zamora for a red zone touchdown to give Cajon a 13-6 lead over Burroughs. Zamara Bruce then essentially sealed the game for Cajon when she intercepted Karisma Mendez and returned it for a touchdown. Garcia then found Vanessa Sepulveda for the one-point try in the end zone to make it a 20-6 game. Burroughs was held to no points throughout the second half. 

Burroughs drops to 3-6 and Cajon improves to 9-1. The Burroughs Bears will play their next game on Friday, September 5th, and host the Notre Dame Knights with kickoff slated for 4:00 p.m.. Cajon will return to action with a home game against Beaumont on Tuesday, September 9th at 5:30 p.m.
