Narek Semergian’s four-goal performance propelled the Golden Knights in a low-scoring three-point win over the Bears

The John Burroughs Bears dropped the second of their back-to-back set, falling to the St. Francis Golden Knights 6-9 to extend their losing streak to five games. Narek Semergian scored four goals for the Knights in the victory over Burroughs. St. Francis came off a 7-3 win over Western back on Tuesday, while Burroughs started off Pacific League play with a 10-16 loss to Arcadia in the first of the back-to-back on Thursday.  

Rocco Quiroga of Burroughs recorded five saves and allowed nine goals in the loss for Burroughs, while Rafa Moncho racked up eight saves in the win for the Golden Knights. It was a low-scoring first quarter with Semerjian scoring the game’s first two goals in a defensive battle for most of the opening quarter. To begin the second quarter, Lincoln Morrow, Nicolas Oporta, and Aaron Sotolongo recorded three consecutive goals to give Burroughs a 3-2 lead. Hudson Snyder responded with two goals to give the Golden Knights a 4-3 lead heading into the halftime break. 

Semerjian and Danny Armstrong began the second half by recording back-to-back goals to give St. Francis a 6-3 lead. Nicola Nasev cut the Golden Knight lead to two with a clutch goal. The third quarter ended with St. Francis holding a 6-4 lead over Burroughs. Matthew Rodriguez put the Bears within one of the Golden Knights by starting the fourth quarter with a big goal. Danny Armstrong then responded with a goal of his own by putting the Golden Knights back up by two. 

After Semerjian missed a penalty shot attempt, Sotolongo and Semerjian traded goals for their respective teams. Sotolongo’s goal brought Burroughs back to within one score, while Semerjian gave the Knights a two-point lead once again. Nasev missed on a penalty shot, and Snyder sealed the game with his goal with 22 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and St. Francis came out on top over Burroughs by three. 

Burroughs drops to 3-7 and St. Francis improves to 10-10. Burroughs will resume Pacific League play with Hoover on Tuesday, September 23rd, with St Francis taking on Crespi on the road on Wednesday, September 24th. Both of those games will take place at 3:45 p.m. respectively.
