As the playoffs begin this afternoon, the final regular-season edition of power rankings for girls volleyball is here. The West Valley Co-champs top the list, while the Valley Mission, East Valley, and North Valley champions are not far behind. Here are the final power rankings as the city championships get underway:
- Cleveland Cavaliers (21-15)
The West Valley Co-champions top the list after surviving a gauntlet that saw them come out on top. This marks the first West Valley title for Cleveland, and they will see a familiar foe when the Quarterfinals of the Open Division get underway this week. - El Camino Real Royals (21-13)
The Royals’ potential shone through in the latter half of the season, and now they can call themselves co-champions of the West Valley League after a tough five-set victory on the final day of league play. No rest for the weary, though, as they will battle Cleveland in the Quarterfinals of the Open Division playoffs this week. - Taft Toreadors (35-13)
The Toreadors came up a set short in defending their League championship, but the Toreadors will be as dangerous as they come when they take on Eagle Rock to open their defense of their Open Division city championship this week. - Grant Lancers (23-5)
The Lancers went back-to-back in the East Valley this season. The Lancers will be heavy favorites to lift hardware when the playoffs begin. - Granada Hills Highlanders (26-18)
The Highlanders had a strong end to the season and will be formidable as a #7 seed in the Open division playoffs. - Kennedy Cougars (28-9)
The Cougars completed the first step of their mission this season by defending the Valley Mission championship. The next step will be to take home a city title. They have an All-Valley matchup against Triumph in the first round of the playoffs. - Triumph Jaguars (28-5)
The Jaguars seniors will graduate having never been anything other than North Valley champions. They have more than a puncher’s chance to add a city title to their claim this season. - SOCES Knights (18-4)
The Knights scheduled this season like a team that has deep playoff aspirations. The Valley League champs will get to prove it as a #5 seed in D-I in an all-valley clash with Reseda to open the playoffs. - Chatsworth Chancellors (24-19)
The Chancellors are not even as good as they will be next season, but that means nothing to this group. David will take their swing at Goliath when they face the top-seeded Venice Gondoliers in the Open Division playoffs this week. - Arleta Mustangs (17-4)
The dominance of Grant in the East Valley has forced the Mustangs into sleeper territory as the playoffs begin, but that’s exactly how this bunch likes it. They will lock horns with San Pedro in the first round of the D-I playoffs this week.
