Bulldogs offensive explosion in the second half propelled them to a dominant victory over the Spartans




The Burbank Bulldogs shut out the La Canada Spartans 13-0 in their season opener behind an offensive parade in the second half en route to an opening night victory. Last season, Burbank finished with a 12-5-3 overall record and a 3-3-1 record in Pacific League play with an appearance in the CIF Southern Section Playoffs. La Canada finished last season with an 11-10-4 overall record and a 4-5-1 record in Rio Hondo League play. This was a contest of two teams that will share the same league next season.







Joseph Chavez and Aram Hovanessian both had attempts at goal in the opening and 11th minutes of the opening half, however, it was Raymond Soukiazian who got the Bulldogs on the board first in the 16th minute of the first half for a 1-0 lead. Joseph Chavez then scored a goal on an assist from Soukiazian in the 18th minute to put Burbank up 2-0 over La Canada. Erik Mkrtchyan made it a 3-0 game for the Bulldogs in the 23rd minute of half one. Chavez fired two more attempts at goal chances in the 29th and 31st minutes of the first half, either of which could have turned this into a 4-0 game, but the Bulldogs entered the halftime break with a 3-0 lead over the Spartans.




The Bulldogs began the second half with three straight goals. Victor Chtryan got the offense going with his third minute goal which was followed by Soukiazian scoring his second goal of the game in the fourth minute. Aram Hovanessian then extended the Bulldog lead to six with a fifth minute goal. Hovanessian scored two more goals within the next three minutes of the second half to make it a hat trick. Burbank continued to add more on the board with Grigor Parian’s 11th minute tally followed very quickly by Chtryan’s second goal of the game to get the lead up to 10. Erik Mrtchyan, Harout Akopyan Soukiazian then put the game away with three more goals to extend the advantage to 13. Soukiazian joined Hovanessian in recording a hat trick.











Burbank improves to 1-0-0 overall and La Canada falls to 0-1-0 on the new season. La Canada will take on Schurr on Friday, November 21st at 7:00 p.m. and Burbank will host Sun Valley Magnet on Saturday, November 22nd at 3:30 p.m.
