Azalea Mata scores five goals in the Rams win over the Bulldogs




In a contest that featured two future league rivals, the Temple City Rams came out victorious with a 5-0 shutout win over the Burbank Bulldogs behind Azalea Mata’s five goal performance. Burbank came off a 3-0 win over de Toledo last Monday prior to the Thanksgiving break. This was the season opener for the Temple City Rams as they entered the new season following a record of 7-10-1 overall and 4-6 in Rio Hondo League play a season ago.



The Rams and Bulldogs began the first half with missed goal chances with Jordyn Williams’ chance to score for Temple City coming in the third minute. Sophia Martinez missed her opportunity at goal in the sixth minute of play. Mata scored four goals in the first half, completing her hat trick in less than four minutes with her goals in the 23rd, 24th, 27th, and 35th minutes of play. Emily Tagoon missed a chance to score for the Bulldogs in the 30th minute of play and the Bulldogs were down 4-0 heading into the halftime break.




Mata scored her fifth goal of the game to begin the second half of play to increase the Temple City lead to five. Martinez had another opportunity at goal in the 21st minute of play coming on a free kick. Mata missed a chance to score her sixth goal of the game in the 23rd minute of play. Karinie Gadyan recorded eight saves in goal despite allowing five goals for Burbank. Paloma Moon recorded a shutout with three saves for Temple City.
















Burbank falls to 3-1-1 and Temple City starts the season 1-0-0. Both teams will return to action on Friday, December 5th. Burbank will begin Pacific League play with a home match against the Arcadia Apaches and Temple City will take on Pasadena at Pasadena High School. Both games will take place at 3:45 p.m.
