Burbank comes away with a 4-2 victory over Marshall

Bulldogs four goal first half propelled them to a two point victory over the Eagles

The Burbank Bulldogs came away with a 4-2 win over the Marshall Eagles behind an offensive explosion in the first half in which they put up four goals. Burbank entered the contest fresh off a 2-2 draw to the Arcadia Apaches in their Pacific League opener, while Marshall came off a 2-1 loss to Cerritos back on Monday. Due to eligibility concerns surrounding the Burbank Bulldogs they have had to forfeit their previous two matches versus Arcadia and Sun Valley Magnet.

Both teams began the first half with opportunities at goal early on, as Douglas Sabillon had a goal chance slip away in the third minute while Aram Hovanessian had two chances at goal in the 5th and 7th minutes of play. Costello Gallegos got the Eagles on the board in the 18th minute of play to put them up 1-0. Following Gallegos’s goal, Joseph Chavez tied the score at one with the assist from Raymond Soukiazian. Soukiazian then gave the Bulldogs the lead with a 24th minute goal. Harout Akopyan and Hovanessian both scored goals in the 29th and 30th minutes of play in the first half to put Burbank up at three. The Bulldogs led 4-1 at the halftime break.

Gallegos began the second half with a fifth minute goal to get the Eagles back within two in hopes of an epic comeback. Chris Perez had an opportunity to get Marshall within one but unfortunately missed a free kick goal in the 20th minute of play. The Bulldogs defense stood firm following Gallegos’ goal to start the half and held on for the victory.

Burbank improves to 2-2-0 overall and Marshall drops to 0-3-1. Burbank will return to action on Tuesday, December 9th with a road contest with Schurr under the lights at 7:00 p.m. Marshall will take on Temple City on the road with the game to take place on Friday, December 5th, at 4:00 p.m.
