Bears 12 run bottom of the third inning propelled them to a shutout victory over the Tigers 

The Burroughs Bears mercy ruled South Pasadena 18-0 behind a 12 run bottom of the third inning in the first game of the season at Olive Park field three.

The Bears went 0-2 in the first weekend of the Hart Tournament with losses to both Camarillo and West Ranch and South Pasadena came off a 10-9 loss to Alhambra last Saturday morning. 

Elliot Rendon worked around a one out walk to Talula Berden by striking out Ava Dawson looking. Berden, who was running on the pitch, was caught stealing second base to complete the double play to end the top of the first inning.

The Bears scored the game’s first two runs with two two-out bases loaded walks by Ali Cortez and Karisma Mendez. Karina Milnar got out of the bases-loaded jam by getting Eva Acevedo to end the first inning. 

Elliot Rendon retired the side in order in the top of the second inning as she recorded the first six outs of the game.

In the bottom of the second inning Sydney Sugar drove home Sophie Rangsiwayong to make it a 3-0 game. Cortez grounded out to shortstop Taelyn Adams, allowing Milnar to get out of another bases loaded situation. 

Rendon struck out the side in the top of the third inning to give her three no-hit innings. The Bears exploded offensively with a 12-run bottom of the third inning.

Kalani Miramontes drove home Eva Acevedo with an RBI single, which was the first hit of the game for the Bears.  Karlee Earl hit a three-run home run, contributing to the offensive show at the plate for Burroughs. The Bears cruised through the rest of the game to seal the shutout win over the Tigers. 

Elliott Redon went the distance with a complete game shutout allowing zero runs, giving up one hit, walking one batter and striking out eight batters.  

“It feels great to be back at Olive Park since this is our home and the girls have an easy commute to get there since it’s walking distance from Burroughs high school,” said Doug Nicol. Nicol also added that the team enjoyed practicing and playing games at Gross Park during the field renovations at Olive Park. 

Burroughs improves to 4-2 and South Pasadena falls to 1-3 on the season. Burroughs fell to Sierra Canyon 2-0 in a marquee regular season showdown on Thursday afternoon. They will resume the Hart tournament on Saturday when they face Royal at 11:00 a.m.
